Key takeaways

  • Zagreus’s Bedchambers are a single room, not the whole East Wing The East Wing also leads towards the Lounge and other parts of the House, but these are separate areas.
  • The Mirror of Night is the room’s main functional landmark It is where Zagreus spends Darkness on permanent upgrades.
  • The desk initially looks empty, but can receive the Fated List of Minor Prophecies after the relevant House Contractor purchase.
  • Most room additions are cosmetic They alter the appearance of the Bedchambers and trigger dialogue, but do not improve Zagreus’s combat statistics.
  • The room is also a story space Zagreus can rest on or interact around the bed during certain narrative moments, and important conversations can occur here.
  • The Lyre is the main exception to the room’s decorative content Learning to play it contributes to the minor prophecy concerning the instrument and can eventually produce a reward.

About this guide

Base game scope. This guide covers the playable room known in-game and in reference material as Zagreus’s Room, rather than the whole eastern side of the House of Hades. The adjacent East Wing, Lounge, Courtyard and House Contractor’s area are treated as neighbouring locations unless they directly affect the room.

Overview

Zagreus’s Bedchambers are the personal room of Zagreus, Prince of the Underworld, inside the House of Hades. They are both a domestic setting and one of the game’s most important progression spaces. The room contains the Mirror of Night, Zagreus’s principal permanent-upgrade interface, the desk that can become the Fated List of Minor Prophecies, and a number of optional furnishings purchased through the House Contractor.

Unlike the Underworld’s combat chambers, the Bedchambers are not procedurally generated, contain no regular enemies, and do not provide an ordinary chamber reward. Their importance comes from repeated visits between escape attempts. Zagreus returns here after death, and the room gradually changes as the player unlocks systems, completes story events and buys decorations.

The room’s presentation is deliberately contradictory. It belongs to the heir of a vast divine household, yet its furnishings suggest neglect, clutter and a teenager’s refusal to tidy up. The narrator describes the bedchambers as being in a perpetual state of disarray, while the central objects in the room turn that mess into a practical headquarters for Zagreus’s escape attempts.

Boundaries and position within the House of Hades

The Bedchambers are reached from the eastern side of the House of Hades. The eastern passage connects the Great Hall with the Lounge and Zagreus’s room, making the Bedchambers part of the House’s residential side rather than its administrative or ceremonial west wing.

This distinction matters because the House of Hades is often discussed as one continuous hub. In practice, it is divided into several visually and functionally distinct spaces:

The room has an exit towards the House’s outdoor or courtyard-facing side. This is also the wall where several decorations can appear, including the Achilles and Aphrodite wall-scrolls. The Bedchambers should therefore be understood as a distinct destination with connections to the rest of the House, not as a name for the entire residential corridor.

Layout and geography

The Bedchambers are compact and arranged around a few dominant objects.

The Mirror of Night occupies the upper-left portion of the room and is the most visually imposing feature. Zagreus’s desk sits along the left wall. His bed dominates the right side, while bookshelves, chairs, chests, skulls and other clutter fill out the remaining space. The room contains four bookshelves, two chairs and two overstuffed chests, alongside several large skulls and a display board of smaller skulls.

The apparent clutter is not merely visual decoration. It establishes Zagreus as someone surrounded by the remains of Underworld history and heroic violence, but not especially interested in domestic order. The room contains a mixture of:

Named directory: fixed room features

The skulls are part of the room’s fixed scenery. They resemble remains associated with several large mythological creatures, including Cyclopes and Gorgons, although the game does not treat them as collectible items or interactive trophies.

Access and routes

Standard route

There is no combat gate, key requirement or random chamber transition. The room is available as part of the House’s normal hub layout, although some of its systems become useful only after their related progression has been unlocked.

Progression states

The room changes over time rather than through alternate maps.

The House Contractor becomes available after early progression and sells upgrades for the House, Zagreus’s room and the Underworld. These purchases use Gemstones, Diamonds or other requirements depending on the work order.

Standard route

  1. 01
Begin in the Great Hall after returning from an escape attempt.
  2. 02
Move through the eastern side of the House.
  3. 03
Continue past the approach towards the Lounge.
  4. 04
    Enter Zagreus’s Bedchambers.
  5. 05
Use the Mirror, desk, bed or room decorations as required.

Main facilities

Mirror of Night

The Mirror of Night is the room’s central functional facility. Zagreus spends Darkness here to unlock and improve permanent abilities that carry between escape attempts. The Mirror is therefore not merely a decorative mirror, despite its imposing appearance and ornate frame.

Its importance is easy to underestimate during the first few runs. The Underworld’s chamber rewards are temporary or run-specific, while the Mirror provides long-term development. A player who is struggling in the Underworld should normally check the Mirror before leaving the House, provided enough Darkness has been collected.

The Mirror’s available options expand through Keys and story progression. Different talents can be selected as Zagreus develops, allowing the player to tailor permanent bonuses towards survivability, damage, mobility or resource generation.

Zagreus’s Desk

The desk begins as a mostly decorative piece with papers, an ink pot, a feather and signs of half-finished work. After purchasing the relevant House Contractor upgrade for 20 Gemstones, it becomes the location of the Fated List of Minor Prophecies.

The Fated List records longer-term objectives such as using particular boons, meeting conditions across multiple runs or completing relationship and collection tasks. It is not a chamber reward table and does not replace the Mirror. Instead, it provides goals that encourage experimentation with weapons, gods, characters and House systems.

The list is especially useful for players who want to make progress beyond simply reaching the final boss. It gives the repeated escape attempts a series of secondary objectives and pays out resources when conditions are met.

Zagreus’s Bed

The bed is the room’s largest piece of ordinary furniture. It is surprisingly neat compared with the surrounding clutter and serves as a recurring story object. In routine play, Zagreus does not use it as a conventional healing or save facility. The room is restored between attempts because it is the House hub, not because the bed provides a consumable service.

The bed can become relevant to narrative scenes and conversations. Certain story developments use Zagreus’s room as a private setting, allowing the game to contrast his role as the rebellious heir with his more personal relationships and memories.

Do not confuse the bed with an inn or recovery station. It does not replace the healing, boon or resource systems found during an escape attempt.

Lyre

The Splendid Lyre is a House Contractor addition placed in Zagreus’s room. It is primarily decorative at first, but Zagreus can practise playing it. This contributes to the minor prophecy Good Riddance, which requires the relevant progression and enough practice. The Lyre’s availability depends on House Contractor progression and story conditions associated with Orpheus.

The Lyre is easy to overlook because it does not improve Zagreus’s combat abilities. It is nevertheless one of the room’s few additions with a clearly documented gameplay purpose beyond visual changes.

Zagreus’s Desk: Recommended order

  1. 01
    Unlock the House Contractor.
  2. 02
Purchase the relevant prerequisite work order if required.
  3. 03
Buy the Fated List of Minor Prophecies for 20 Gemstones.
  4. 04
    Check the desk between runs.
  5. 05
Use the list to plan experiments rather than chasing every prophecy at once.

Room decorations

The House Contractor offers a separate group of Bedchambers purchases. These are distinct from Great Hall, Lounge and West Wing decorations. Most change the room’s appearance and trigger short reactions from Zagreus, Hades or the narrator.

Named directory: verified Bedchambers additions

The reference material identifies several of these purchases directly and records their positions in the room. The Trojan Arms, for example, are displayed above the bed and contain a shield, dagger and a notably anachronistic pair of nunchucks. The Achilles Wall-Scroll appears between the Mirror and the exit, while the Aphrodite Wall-Scroll occupies the area between the exit and the bed. The Dionysus Wall-Scroll appears above the Scrying Pool.

Decoration inventory

Some Contractor references use different display labels or place items in broader upgrade tables. For that reason, the cost and requirement of a particular late Bedchambers item should be checked against the player’s current Contractor menu rather than assumed from its decorative category. The Contractor’s catalogue includes cosmetic, functional and quest-related upgrades, and not every Bedroom Decor item has the same type of prerequisite.

Functional versus cosmetic purchases

Purchasing decorations does not generally make Zagreus stronger in combat. The practical value is instead found in new interactions, prophecy access, information displays and the dialogue that accompanies House restoration. The wider House Contractor system explicitly covers both functional upgrades and cosmetic additions.

Characters and residents

The Bedchambers are not a normal meeting point for the House’s full cast. Most characters have fixed positions elsewhere, particularly in the Great Hall, Lounge, Courtyard or West Wing. The room should therefore not be treated as a social hub in the same way as the main hall.

Visitors and story-associated characters

The room can be involved in conversations or narrative scenes with characters connected to Zagreus’s relationships, family and escape attempts. These appearances are progression-dependent and should not be mistaken for permanent room residents. The exact availability of a conversation can depend on prior dialogue, run completion, relationship progress and the current story state.

The list above describes characters associated with the room through story events or dialogue, not a claim that each character can freely be found standing there at all times. Nyx is normally associated with the entrance area outside Zagreus’s room rather than being a permanent occupant inside it.

Activities and progression

Starting a new escape attempt

The Bedchambers are not the direct launch point for every activity in the House. Zagreus normally reviews his Mirror, checks the Fated List, visits the Courtyard and considers weapons and keepsakes before leaving for the Underworld.

This route keeps permanent progression and long-term objectives separate from the temporary choices made before a run.

Working through prophecies

The Fated List is most useful when treated as a planning tool. Before an attempt, choose one or two feasible objectives, such as:

The list does not require the player to complete every condition in one run. Many prophecies are designed around repeated attempts and the game’s broad range of possible builds.

Practising the Lyre

The Lyre is a small optional activity. It does not lead to combat training or a new weapon. Continue interacting with it as the relevant dialogue and practice progression becomes available. The associated prophecy is one of the room’s more easily missed pieces of content because it is not necessary for escaping the Underworld.

Reviewing room statistics

If the Scrying Pool has been purchased, use it as an information object rather than a combat facility. It provides a reason to return to the room even after the Mirror and Fated List have been checked.

Starting a new escape attempt: A sensible preparation route is

  1. 01
Enter the Bedchambers after returning to the House.
  2. 02
Spend available Darkness at the Mirror.
  3. 03
Read the Fated List if it has been unlocked.
  4. 04
Inspect any new story interaction around the bed or room.
  5. 05
    Leave for the Courtyard.
  6. 06
    Select a weapon and keepsake.
  7. 07
    Begin the next escape attempt.

Hazards, enemies and security

There are no regular enemies, traps, bosses or security encounters in Zagreus’s Bedchambers.

This is an important boundary distinction. The room belongs to the House of Hades, which has guards, staff and restricted routes elsewhere, but the Bedchambers themselves are a safe hub area. Zagreus cannot lose health through an environmental hazard here, and there is no combat reward for entering or leaving.

Directory: categories absent from the room

The lack of combat is deliberate. The Underworld’s procedural chambers provide the risk-and-reward loop, while the House and its rooms provide recovery, conversation, permanent upgrades and preparation between attempts.

Lore and thematic importance

The Bedchambers are one of the clearest visual statements about Zagreus’s place in the House.

He is the Prince of the Underworld, yet his room is neither a formal throne room nor a carefully managed royal suite. It is crowded with skulls, books, abandoned dishes, war relics and mismatched furnishings. The resulting space suggests someone who has access to luxury but has little interest in maintaining it.

Several decorations connect the room to Zagreus’s personal history:

The furniture also supports the game’s humour. Zagreus can purchase a recliner yet remains unable to sit still, while the entertainment table gives him something to do but no obvious opponent. These additions make the room feel lived in without turning it into a conventional housing simulator.

Suggested exploration routes

Resource-conscious route

Cosmetic upgrades are not a poor choice if you value dialogue and House restoration, but they do not normally provide the same immediate mechanical value as the Mirror, prophecy list or other functional Contractor work orders.

First-time player route

  1. 01
    Enter the Bedchambers.
  2. 02
    Inspect the Mirror of Night.
  3. 03
Leave the room and learn the rest of the House layout.
  4. 04
    Return after collecting Darkness.
  5. 05
Buy the Fated List when the Contractor offers it.
  6. 06
Use the room as the starting point for checking progression before each attempt.

Completionist route

  1. 01
Check the Mirror after every meaningful Darkness gain.
  2. 02
Read the Fated List between runs.
  3. 03
Purchase all available Bedchambers work orders when resources allow.
  4. 04
    Return after major story conversations.
  5. 05
Practise on the Lyre whenever new dialogue appears.
  6. 06
Inspect the Scrying Pool and room decorations after unlocking them.
  7. 07
Compare the Contractor’s Bedchambers tab against the named directory above to avoid overlooking a late cosmetic purchase.

Resource-conscious route: If Gemstones are scarce, prioritise

  1. 01
    Fated List of Minor Prophecies.
  2. 02
Any required functional House Contractor upgrade.
  3. 03
Lyre-related purchases if pursuing the prophecy.
  4. 04
Scrying Pool if its information is useful to your completion goals.
  5. 05
    Cosmetic decorations according to preference.
